    Hellman: The Art of the Canoe

    I am very impressed with the ecopoxy resin system. It is superior to any other resin I have used. It is non-toxic and has very little smell. It wets out much better than any of the other resin I have used. We worked with it at room temperature and wet out 3 layers of cloth at a time with no problem. It has no induction period so there is no chance of using it before it is ready. There is plenty of time to work with the resin before it starts setting up.

    I have done the outside of this hull and I will turn and do the inside starting next week. It has worked fine, it has been easy to apply and it wet through both layers 2x163 gram/m2 rather easy. I used a foam roller after I was done with the squeegee to get it even. Only smell is from the hardener and just only when mixing. Then it was no smell, nor heavy air in the room. In general I am positive this far no hesitation.

    I am switching over to Eco-poxy for my infusion process and look forward to the reduced vapors. Eco-Poxy also has a Color Coat that can be used similar to gelcoat. This would be great for a hull surface in the molds. I am also looking forward to using it for the topcoat on the decks for my 30ft… heck all over the boat to be exact. I will be making both my shops here in Canada Eco-poxy shops.

    My name is Tom Newland. I have personally been in the boating industry for many years, I was one of the men who helped develop off shore boat racing and I was also a pilot. Since using Ecopoxy resins and hardeners to build the hulls, we have yet to see one of them break, this is a big deal in offshore boat racing. The above shell was built in 1986.
